About Mike

I lived my whole life in a comfort zone. Comfort of a strong support network, steady job, and a halfway decent head on my shoulders. Year over year, things remained on a good track, but nothing ever changed. Change never found me, but now I forcefully took hold of it. Onwards and Upwards!

Lost in Translation

To be lost — how does that make you feel? Uneasy, nervous?

To me, it is unbelievably refreshing and exhilarating! Whenever we are in the comforts of our own world we always know what to do. We know where to go, how to get there, who to talk to should we get lost, and how to talk to them. Well, all of that went out the window when we boarded American Airlines flight 153 on a one-way trip to Tokyo.

Being lost gives me the chance to see things I never would have dreamt of seeing before, and do things I never thought I could do. We have walked for miles not knowing where we were or even what direction we were going in, and that has given us the chance to really feel what this city has to offer.

When telling people that I was coming to Japan, I heard that not many people spoke English (surprisingly enough) and that the people were a bit on the abrasive side. Well, the English part is true, but the misconception here lies in communication itself. When we have asked any Japanese local for help they have been overtly kind with their response even if they didn’t speak english! And, the abrasive nature of the people is not due to them being rude or coming off as impolite, but just because the city is incredibly dense! Exponentially more dense than New York City, or any other destination in the US for that matter. We have been on subways where personal space did not exist. Rush hour in the Shinjuku subway station was like something that I have never seen before in my life. People fly through these terminals so fast, not moving in straight lines, but somehow extremely efficient — it is organized chaos!

We have already experienced some incredible stuff that you cannot witness anywhere else in the world, and I cannot wait to share it all with you.

Onwards and Upwards,
Mike

Travel Inventory

Travel to Tokyo is merely hours away at this point!

We are crazy excited and a bit intimidated at the same time of what is in the near future. But, likely we are going on this trip prepare with what we consider to be our OU Essentials that will keep us in peak performance throughout our trip.

Let us know what you think about our list!

Onwards and Upwards!

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to Onwards and Upwards! We are two young guys who live life on the edge. Some people call us crazy while others just find us oddly entertaining, but we love being ourselves nonetheless. We love to adventure and experience destinations in their entireties — we fancy everything from food, culture, and sceneries to those awesome moments that are best told via video and photography.

Introducing: OU-P2

We’ve had OU-P2 (aka Onwards and Upwards-Phantom 2) for a while now, and he has been an incredible addition to the team! He enables us to do some pretty awesome stuff that we would never be able to do otherwise.

Here are some of the practice runs that we have done so far, but nothing will compare to the stuff we will get in our soon to be ‘home’ of SE Asia!

Pilot: Mexico City

The trip that will start them all! We chose to do a ‘test’ trip prior to going out to the far east to see if we all worked well together while abroad. And, this is what we have to show for it!

We were so surprised by our destination, Mexico City. There was so much to do there from experiencing the culture to the food and nightlife. We were extremely happy with our stay, and cannot wait to unveil the the next episode!

Let the Game Begin!

After coming back from our Mexican adventure we are already looking to go onto our next destination, but we have one problem — you haven’t told us where to go yet!

Through gamification we look to put our future in your hands, so place your vote on our website’s poll within the next week, and control where we travel to next! After the destination is decided we will be looking for some more input on where to go and what to do while there.

On top of having the ability to control where we go next we are also incorporating another gamification tactic by rewarding you for your vote by awarding you points that can be turned in for some cool stuff. Visit our Store Page to find out more.

What are the best things to do in the city you voted on? Leave a comment below and let us know!
